Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is RSS?
    • RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication, and is used by many websites to help you view their content in an easy format. There are many RSS readers available, as separate programs or as part of an email program or website.

  2. What websites provide RSS feeds?
    • Many sites offer RSS links, here are some examples:
    • Philly.com (Philadelphia Inquirer) - RSS feeds
    • abcnews.com - RSS feeds
    • foxnews.com - RSS feeds
    • craigslist.com - See our example showing how you can get search results from Craigslist.com sent to you! Click here.
  3. How does the Quickthreads service work?
    • This service allows you to set up RSS feeds of your favorite sites, and get them delivered daily (up to twice per day) to your email box. The advantage to this method is that you do not need to check a separate program. You can also read the message and click to the stories at your leisure. The feed becomes a static email message in your inbox.

  4. What are some advantages of getting RSS feeds via Email, instead of a desktop aggregator?
    • 1. You can track your feeds anywhere you can read your email - even using webmail.
      2. If you miss a day or two, the messages are still in your inbox, so you can see old articles.
      3. You don't need to remember to read the feeds - it's as simple as reading your email.
      4. You can set the frequency of the emails, so you don't waste time scanning feeds that are only updated once or twice a week.

  5. How do I set up an account?
    • You may register here for a free Lite account.

  6. How do I get the "URL" for a feed I want to follow?
    • When you find a feed you'd like to track, an easy way to grab the URL is as follows:
      1. Click on the feed - it will open the feed in your browser
      2. In the address bar of your browser, you should see a URL that ends in something like .rss, or .xml
      3. Highlight that URL with your mouse, right click and "Copy" it.
      4. You can now paste the URL with a right click, and "Paste".

  7. What does it cost?
    • Lite accounts are FREE. If you need more power, we offer a subscription plan for a very low cost, which includes additional feeds, and daily runs.
